JOB TITLE: LPN
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Licensed Practical Nurse
SUMMARY: Under immediate supervision, supports providers (physicians and registered nurses) in provision of patient care, which includes recording vital signs, discussing chief health concerns, performing testing, and administering injections; assists with procedures and documentation.
EXAMPLE OF THE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provides medication administration under the supervision of the staff psychiatrist and registered nurses.
* Provides medication monitoring, medication evaluation, and medication management.
* Provides consumer and family education (e.
g.
, diagnosis, symptoms, medication, coping strategies).
* Provides recurrent, in-service training: Infection Control, Medication Administration).
* Administers and reorders injectable medications.
* Consults with referral sources, case managers, family members, physicians, and registered nurses.
* Participates in after-hours, on-call rotation PRN.
* Completes all documentation in an appropriate and timely manner.
* Performs other reasonable, related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management, as required.

Responsible for the storage and protection of consumer records, including compliance with the Heath Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.

Nurses will maintain MAS certification and perform duties as outlined by the NDP guidelines and CCMHB policies and procedures.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of Practical Nursing techniques
Some knowledge of types, symptoms, and treatment of mental and physical illness
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Knowledge of normal vital signs and body functions
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff, patients, and the general public
Flexibility; able to organize, schedule, and communicate
Ability to perform tasks independently
Complete all paperwork in an appropriate and timely manner
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from a standard high school, supplemented by graduation from a state-approved school of practical nurse education.
Current license to practice as a LPN in the State of Alabama
Some experience in a psychiatric setting is preferred
