Department: Admissions Supervisor: Director of Admissions Hours: Full time 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday - Friday Type: Hourly Job Description: Admissions Clerk is responsible for handling the clerical aspects of the admissions process to admit patients into the facility and any other related duties as key team member supporting the philosophy, objectives, and goals of Talladega Healthcare *Job Responsibilities/Duties:* \*Inputting/ updating patient demographic information into the designated system \*Collects and validates health care coverage and policy limiations \*Assists patients/families in completing paperwork and forms when necessary and reviews for accuracy and completion \*Managing resident files \*Submitting for insurance authorization through web-based portal, phone and/or fax \*Submitting insurance requested medical record information \*Explain the facilities policies and procedures regarding the admission process and answers routine questions \*Follows all established policies and standards to preserve patient confidentiality, ensure data security and comply with all applicable regulations \*Answer phones and direct calls to appropriate individuals \*Break down charts of discharged patients \*Make new charts for admits \*Explaining financial expectations to patients \*Escorts patient/family or arranges for escort to assigned room \*Assists with special projects and performs related clerical and administrative duties as required \*Trains co-workers when needed *Knowledge of:* \*Indexing and filing systems \*General office functions, procedures, and equipment \*Medical terminology preferred but not required \*Basic computer programs and technology \*Telephone, office, and online etiquette *Skills and Abilities:* \*Communicate effectively orally and written \*Operate a computer \*Interact and establish a working relationship with management, employees, outside agencies and the public \*Explain procedures and documents to others \*Understand and follow oral and written instructions \*Read and understand legal and medical documents \*Ability to work well under pressure \*Strong organizational and multitasking abilities \*High level of accuracy and attention to detail \*Ability to work independently and as part of a team *Education and or Experience: * The physical characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this classification.
