Gentry Facility - Based in Talladega or at any Regional Center ABOUT ALABAMA INSTITUTE FOR DEAF AND BLIND Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the world’s most comprehensive education, rehabilitation and service program serving individuals of all ages who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind and multidisabled and their families.
Founded in 1858, AIDB serves more than 36,000 infants, toddlers, children, adults and seniors with hearing and vision loss throughout Alabama each year.
Our services literally span a lifetime including five campuses in Talladega, 10 regional centers located in Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, and Shoals - including two new locations in Opelika and Decatur - with programs that range from early and senior intervention, traditional and nontraditional education services in residential and outreach settings and a manufacturing facility that is the state’s largest employer of adults who are Blind and Deaf.

As the Director of Employment Services, you will make effective leadership decisions and problem-solve using sound judgment in the development and coordination of employment programs and services for individuals who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, and multidisabled.
You will also provide strong leadership to employment staff at both E.
H.
Gentry Facility and Regional Centers (clerical, professional, contract, interns and volunteers) to include direct supervision, program evaluation, staff development, conducting performance evaluations, and recruitment of new staff.
The Director of Employment Services will create, maintain, and provide all CARF standards for Employment/Job Development; oversee the transition of students from E.
H.
Gentry Facility to Regional Centers; and serve as a point of contact for the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services concerning employment.
Directors at E.
H.
Gentry Facility have operational and fiduciary responsibilities for their respective departments (travel, payroll, requisitions, etc.
).
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to share your expertise and student successes internally and externally state/nation-wide.
Finally, the Director of Employment Services acts as primary liaison between staff and the Executive Director.
You will play a vital role to ensure that AIDB’s culture of inclusion is reinforced and that employees feel connected, recognized, and proud to be a part of the organization.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation, Education, Human Services, Human Resources, Business, Marketing, Management, or a related field.
Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in Educational Supervision and/or Administration or other related professional supervisory experience.
Proven experience managing projects, deadlines, and working with ambiguity.
Work history demonstrating the ability to motivate, align efforts, set goals, delegate and monitor effectively.
Knowledge and understanding of methodologies used to educate individuals who are Deaf, Blind and DeafBlind.
Exhibit exceptional communication skills, and experience with providing presentations to an audience.
Ability to travel long distances and work a flexible schedule (weekday, evenings, or weekends) based on the needs of the program and individuals served.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master’s degree in Deaf Education, Visual Impairments, Special Education, Rehabilitation, Human Resources, Business, Marketing, Management or a related field.
Work history that demonstrates familiarity with AIDB units, and local, state and national organizations/agencies.
Three (3) years of relevant experience in Supervision and/or Administration or other related professional supervisory experience.
Three (3) years of experience in building and leading a team.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS Must regularly work onsite at E.
H.
Gentry Facility at least two (2) days per week, and dedicate at least two (2) days per week to Regional Centers.
Must demonstrate competency in reading and writing Braille by scoring 80% or better on AIDB’s Braille Skills Assessment Inventory within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
Must complete Orientation to Blindness within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
Must complete AIDB online training on Deafness, Blindness, Visual Impairments, DeafBlindness and Multiple Disabilities within the first twelve (12) months of hire.
Must obtain a sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL within the first twelve (12) months, SURVIVAL PLUS within the first twenty-four (24) months and INTERMEDIATE within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.
